Scientists Create Spider-Man Silk

In the latest news, scientists from the US have developed a way to mass produce super strong spider silk, just like the one used by Spider-Man. Spider silk is stronger than steel in weight-for-weight terms, however until now researchers have failed to find a way to reproduce enough for commercial production. Scientists from the University of Wyoming have genetically modified the silkworm to spin silk with spider protein. The study results were published last week in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences magazine. This scientific breakthrough could open the door for large-scale production of spider-silk. The silk has many possible applications, from the medical world (artificial ligaments and tendons, tough wound dressings) and in warfare (bulletproof vests). Just another step to making Spider-Man come to life.

Spider-Man comic book sold for $1.1 million

In March this year, a near-perfect condition copy of the inaugural 1962 Spider-Man comic book by Marvel, sold via an online auction for $1.1 million. Originally the comic sold for just 12 cents. That is a over 9 million times increase in value, not a bad investment, though it is over nearly 50 years. It is not the highest ever paid for a comic book, Superman's 1938 debut comic book was sold for $1.5 million in 2010.

Miles Morales - the new mixed-race Spider-Man

A major change is happening in the world of Spider-Man. After the Green Goblin had killed off Peter Parker, it opened up the opportunity for Marvel Comics to introduce a revamped Spider-Man. And the new Spider-Man is Miles Morales, a mild-mannered half-black, half-Latino teen from New York. When at home, the new Spidey lives in Brooklyn with his parents - quite a change from Peter Parker, a white orphan from Queens. This is the first step to overcome the domination of Caucasian superheroes -  super black power.

The New Movie Amazing Spider-Man

The last Spider-man film was Spider-man 3, and although it broke box office records it was derided by critics. There is no doubt the next installment will be successful, but will it be enjoyed by all fans? The latest edition of the spiderman movie series is due to be released next year (2012). The Amazing Spider-man begins the angst-ridden super-hero's story from the start.

The new movie will feature a fresh all-star cast and storyline. Tobey Maguire has been replaced with Social Network star Andrew Garfield. Parker’s Aunt May and Uncle Ben will be played by Sally Field and Martin Sheen. Instead of living with his great aunt, the film will tell the story of a younger Peter Parker adapting to life after being abandoned by his parents. Instead of his love interest Mary Jane, Parker will pursue Gwen Stacy played by Emma Stone. As for the villians, the Lizard will take over and will be played by Rhys Ifans.

Spider-Man Stunt Goes Wrong

In one of the previews for the new Spider-Man musical in New York City, a stuntman's safety rope snaps and he plunges 30ft . The stunt man Chris Tierney suffered multiple broken ribs and substantial bleeding, lucky not to break his back. You can see the rope breaking in this video. If he was the real Spider-Man, he could have saved himself.

The New Spider-Man Played By Garfield

The new Spider-Man has been announced as British actor Andrew Garfield, who will star in the fourth installment of the Spider-man franchise. Garfield beat a comprehensive list of candidates for the role, including Aaron Johnson, Anton Yelchin, Logan Lerman, and Josh Hutcherson. The story of the next Spider-Man is a prequel that sees Peter Parker return to high school. Production for the movie begins in December and it will be released in 3D on July 3, 2012.

Spider-Man helps set World Record

Spider-man was well represented at the successful Guinness World Record attempt for the most number of people wearing superhero costumes in one location, held at Federation Square in Melbourne, Australia last weekend. The event was in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the release of the first DC comic. There were 1245 costumed people present, easily beating the previous record of 1091 people wearing super hero costumes in the one place held by the UK. Spider-man joined with many of his superhero buddies, such as Superman, Batman, Robin, Wonder Woman, the Green Lantern and of course the girls Wonder Woman, Cat Woman, Super Girl and Hawk Girl, all in various ages, genders, shapes and sizes. One report had the most popular hero as Superman, but  Spider-Man was not far behind.
